How local businesses in Whatcom County can better connect with residents — what works and what doesn't?
I noticed that whenever I shop at the farmer’s market, I feel a stronger connection to the vendors compared to when I stop at a random shop in town. One bakery owner even remembered my favorite pastry after just two visits. That kind of personal touch makes me want to keep coming back. Do you think local businesses should focus more on building relationships like that, or are there other ways that really help them connect with the community?

I’ve seen a lot of value in those personal connections too, but I think businesses can mix it up. Some of the bellingham businesses I’ve visited host small community events, like trivia nights or seasonal tastings, and it really draws people in. Even something simple like posting updates about local happenings on their socials makes you feel they’re part of the neighborhood, not just selling something. That kind of engagement goes a long way.
